Passive Voice (kalimat pasif) adalah bentuk kalimat di mana subjek kalimat menerima aksi, bukan melakukan aksi.
Dalam Descriptive Text, passive voice sering digunakan untuk memberikan kesan formal dan fokus pada objek yang dideskripsikan, bukan siapa yang melakukannya.
Subject + is/am/are + Verb 3 (Past Participle)
is: untuk subjek tunggal (he, she, it, the temple, the flower).
am: khusus untuk subjek `I`.
are: untuk subjek jamak (they, we, you, the flowers, the rooms).
Perhatikan bagaimana fokus kalimat berubah dari pelaku (aktif) menjadi objek (pasif).
The National Monument, or Monas, is a famous landmark in Jakarta. It is located right in the center of Merdeka Square. This monument is known as a symbol of the struggle for Indonesian independence. At the top, a flame shape is covered with gold foil. The base of the monument is used as a museum where the history of Indonesia is displayed for visitors.
Borobudur Temple is a famous landmark in Indonesia. It is located in Magelang, Central Java. The temple is built with thousands of volcanic stones. Many beautiful reliefs are carved on its walls. Every year, this magnificent temple is visited by millions of tourists from all over the world.
Active: The chef cooks the food. (Koki itu memasak makanan.)
Passive: The food is cooked by the chef. (Makanan itu dimasak oleh koki.)
Active: They build many houses. (Mereka membangun banyak rumah.)
Passive: Many houses are built by them. (Banyak rumah dibangun oleh mereka.)
Active: Someone cleans this room every day. (Seseorang membersihkan ruangan ini setiap hari.)
Passive: This room is cleaned every day. (Ruangan ini dibersihkan setiap hari.)
Active: I write a letter. (Saya menulis sepucuk surat.)
Passive: A letter is written by me. (Sepucuk surat ditulis oleh saya.)
