Descriptive text is a text that describes a particular person, place, animal, or thing. It gives detailed information about the characteristics, appearance, and qualities of the subject being described.
Function

To describe and reveal a particular person, place, animal, or thing.
To give detailed information about the subject.
To help readers visualize and understand the characteristics.
To create a clear picture in the reader's mind.

Identification: Introduces the topic or subject that will be described. It tells what the text is about.
Description: Describes the characteristics, appearance, qualities, and other details about the subject.

Fokus pada subjek tertentu (satu benda, satu orang, dsb).
Banyak menggunakan kata sifat (adjectives), contoh: beautiful, tall, big, small.
Menggunakan Simple Present Tense karena mendeskripsikan fakta dari subjek tersebut.
Menggunakan kata kerja penghubung (linking verbs), contoh: is, are, has, have, seems, appears.

Identification:
Borobudur is the biggest Buddhist temple in the world. It is located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. This temple is one of the most famous historical buildings in the country.
Description:
Borobudur has nine levels with many reliefs and Buddha statues. The walls are decorated with beautiful carvings that tell stories about life and religion. From the top of the temple, visitors can see a wide view of mountains and villages. Borobudur is not only a tourist attraction but also a sacred place for Buddhists.
